February

Following on from the Big Garden Bird Watch in January, the the Big Farmland bird count starts on 5th February through to 21st February. This is designed for farmers to record how many species and the numbers of species are on the farm. We will be out on our farm to see which birds are around and it will enable us to see if the new habitats that we have created on our farm are working to increase bird numbers throughout the farm.

We will be delivering to our customers too – you can look on our website to find your nearest supplier is. We are working with some great farm shops so please check them out. They are all champions of local home grown food & produce which is what we are all about! We have just started working with Mackenzies Smokehouse near Harrogate.

January

The Big Garden Bird Watch is happening at the end of the month so make sure you get your Yorkshire Bird Food Co seed out to attract the birds to the garden and get counting. There is more information at www.rspb.org.uk and you can download check sheets & information sheets.

On the farm things are fairly quiet in January with mainly cattle jobs at this time of year and machinery maintenance. We ensure we are topping up our bird feeders weekly throughout the farm to help keep the birds fed through the colder months. If we do get any sustained periods of frozen weather don’t forget to put fresh water out for the birds as they may struggle to get any if everything is frozen!

Welcome to our new website

We have produced a new brand of bird food called The Yorkshire Bird Food Co. Based on our family farm in East Yorkshire we have diversified into producing our own premium wild bird food mix using only seeds that are grown in Yorkshire.

After years of feeding birds we have often wondered why we feed native birds seeds which we cannot grow in this country. Seeds like Niger and even Sunflowers cannot be grown commercially in this country and are imported from Africa which are then blended with seeds like Canary and Naked Oats to be sold throughout the UK.

At the Yorkshire Bird Food Co we produce a premium mix which we can grow on our farm in Yorkshire meaning there is minimal food miles in getting this product into outlets like yours. All our bird food is blended into 100% recyclable packaging and sold in either 1 or 3 kg bags (1kg available online).

As well as Bird food we also sell bird feeders, bird boxes and a gift set range, one designed for children and one for adults.

Don’t forget to share your pictures with us on social media of the birds enjoying the seed in your garden.

Happy bird watching.
